School Board Meeting Thursday

Attend the Board Meeting on 12/14 and make your voice heard!

From the GCPS website:

Procedures for Addressing the Board

The agenda is prepared in advance of each meeting. Anyone wishing to speak before the Board should inform the Superintendent's office in writing by noon on the Monday prior to the Board meeting. Items for the agenda may be suggested by any Board member, staff member, or citizen.

Before each regular meeting, a public forum is held at 6:30 p.m. to allow persons not on the agenda an opportunity to address the Board. Citizens may sign up at the Board meeting to speak during the 30-minute public forum period. Speakers are asked to keep their comments brief, and no Board action is taken.

More to come on this tomorrow evening...

Problems and Concerns !!!

1. Problems with the management of our classrooms.Wilbanks Philosophy and interference!

2. Problems in the Transportation Department.(mismanagement and hiring).Buying plush houses for staff member use? Contributions to only area Christian Church's by the department with public funds?

3.Problems and games played in Human Resources, the HR Director supporting her church and others with GCPS Assets. Coaching selected candidates for interviews behind closed doors ? FD's relatives and church members being hired and given favortism...

4.Problems in Accounting and Auditing. False leave reports by Keith Knight for years. Unqualified people hired without professional certifications and graduate degrees. Auditors not working 8 hours a day? No oversight by Mr. Wilbanks apparently. Rush to hire replacements for new openings without proper advertising for positions... No new procedures put in place to prevent these problems in the future?

5. Overspending on Computers and Peoplesoft implementation. Where was Mr. Wilbanks again ??? IBM abusing GCPS employees and writing their own PO's? Wilbanks using his County Platinum American Express Card to lavishly decorate his offices...

6.Nepotism in the Schools and the central office, why was this allowed ?

The School Board must look into these things now and if some of them are true, fire Mr. Wilbanks today!!!

The Public needs to speak out using all available means now !

Use the Open Records Law to look for proof yourself, call, write and e-mail GCPS Senior Management and School Board Members demanding answers now!

Look what the American Public did by speaking out in stopping the publication of OJ's new book. Gwinnett County citizens can be as successful if eveyone tries!

ATTEND THE BOARD MEETING ON 12/14/2006. USE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO QUESTION THE BOARD ABOUT THESE TOPICS AND OTHERS !!!!

WXIA-TV plans on having a TV Crew at the 12/14 School Board Meeting......

Since WXIA-TV will be covering the meeting on 12/14. A bunch of us need to get on the phone or via e-mail to the other TV stations and newspapers and tell them about WXIA-TV coverage and the meeting time and place. The Media is very competitive in this town and will not want to be scooped by another Media outlet!

This way the story gets the broadest exposure possible...

Also this might help avoid Ms. Sloan Roach GCPS Media Spokesperson from calling WXIA and talking them out of covering the meeting, which Wilbanks will probably try to have her to do !

On Dec 14, GCPS lists on the website, that the public will be invited to speak regarding redistricting during the 6:30 commentary section at the school board meeting. Usually redistricting brings passionate people out to speak. If anyone is going to speak out regarding the issues on this blog, I would recommend getting there very early to sign up, if in fact, speaking is done on a first come, first serve basis. I am not aware of the process, in terms of order/priority, but if you want to speak I would double check the order process, otherwise you might be locked out.

The School Board when you sign up to speak on Thursday night might ask for the topics you wish to address. They might not allow persons speaking on blog topics to even address the meeting? That is when the attendees must make some noise and protest a little!

I wonder if the School Board and/or Wilbanks disclosed the topic for the public comment portion of the meeting on purpose, Redistricting. To deflect and redirect attention away from the Blog Topics???

Smart move I might add....

I've never witnessed them stopping anyone from voicing an opinion on a topic at the BOE meetings, and really fail to see them ever do it. The press would eat them alive.

What will happen is that speakers time will be reduced so as many as possible can speak. Be prepared to be brief and to the point if speaking at the 6:30 session. I've only seen them extend the period for comments on one occasion.

They very well could and in all probability will limit the number of citizens addressing the board during the regular session. I’m sure they want to get home before breakfast.

Keep in mind that they do have the power to clear the room should things become too loud.

OK, having said that, look for Alvin to set looking down at a fictitious document, rarely looking up to make eye contact. Seckinger to listen intently only hearing what he wants to, Mary K will watch without ever getting a clue, Louise? Well who knows? McClure will be making eye contact looking over the top of the rim of his glasses with a blank expression, and Boyce; well I don’t have a read on her.

Again Be aware they will not respond during this period but may well make some closing comments at the very end of the meeting aimed at the press.

(this is how they operate)

Hope to see everyone there.

The redistricting public comments take place from 6-6:30, and I think that has been on the books for quite a while. But, signing up for the 6:30 portion as early as possible is a good idea to ensure you are able to speak if you want to.
I have also seen the State BOE say that holding signs up is not allowed at their meetings. The "leader" of the group w/signs asked to see their written policy regarding this. They did not have one, so the audience kept the signs but did not wave or use them to distract inside and during the meeting.

If you want to file a complaint with the US Department of Education, I would encourage you to do so. You can file an anonymous, confidential report or not. The website is http://www.ed.gov/about/offices/
list/oig/misused/index/html or you can call 1-800-MISUSED. The website says that it is designed to file a complaint for the following:

"The Office of Inspector General (OIG) at the U.S. Department of Education (ED) conducts audits, investigations, and inspections of education programs and operations. Anyone knowing of fraud, waste, or abuse of Department of Education funds should contact the OIG Fraud Hotline to make a confidential report."

I would like to believe that this agency will truly investigate all that we have posted and are upset about. If this isn't a case of abuse, I don't know what is! Surely JAW hasn't made friends with them yet!

Please, please, please file your concerns with the OIG! If they start hearing in mass from Gwinnett County, don't you think that they will think something is up with our school system? (Current employees, this is your chance!).

I love this statement in the Sunday article: "the ‘brain’ of this GCPS machine functions but possesses neither a heart nor a soul."

I left Gwinnett after 20 years of service because I was being black-balled from promotion. I didn't fit the mold, I guess, since I got along with the community, was a creative go-getter, had excellent evaluations, but the wrong clothes. The superficiality was dumbfounding.

Has anyone questioned the Director of Human Resource's taxpayer paid trip to Africa to recruit? She did this a couple of years ago. I, and others, would have stayed if we had been treated right. There wouldn't be a need for international recruitment.

Those same 2 citizens addressed the board on 9/14/06 (I think it was to request a bus for ROTC from BHS to Parkview). Is it possible that they are reappearing or is the agenda incorrect?

Please we need a group of dedicated and concerned individuals to make some large signs to hold Thursday 12/14. These people need to position themselves at either the entrance to GCPS headquarters or the entrance to the Parking Lot from about 4:30 PM on. Display the signs to the employees as they leave, the media and participants as they arrive. Getting people worked up... Please make a little noise as well!!!

Remember it is for The Kids!
